DORRIDGE CC 2003 TOUR : MATCH REPORTS
Monday 14 July : Chipping
Sodbury v Dorridge
On
a day competing for “hottest of year”, first day Skipper Mike Timmins won the
toss and to the great relief of the team chose to bat.
Openers Rod Hokin & Sam Reddish, both DCC
tour virgins, got off to a great start and had 73 on the board in 10 overs
before Rod was bowled by Tony Garton for 22. Elliot Seal joined Sam and carried
on the good work, with Sam reaching his century in 59 balls including 12 4’s
and 7 6’s. He was then retired with 112 under his belt.
Elliot
completed a fine 81 in 82 balls, (10 4’s & 2 6’s) and with cameos from
Parksy (15) and John Wright 25, Dorridge finished with 275 for 5 off their 40
overs
After
a typical wonderful Sodbury tea, Chipping Sodbury set off with every intent of
overhauling the Dorridge total and at the half way point had 118-1 on the
board.
The
feared duo of Linfield and Parks made little impression and “went for plenty”
as Mike Pearson completed a fine century but was then dismissed by Parksy.
Sodbury kept up the rate with excellent contributions from Long, Scully,
Fowler, Garton and Doidge but just failed to reach their target by 6 runs.
Mike
Pearson, for his ton, was judged the CS man of the match and Ben Linfield was
presented with the DORRIDGE DICKHEAD tea shirt.
On a day competing with
yesterday as “hottest of year”, Tuesday’s
Skipper Rod Hokin was tasked with obtaining a closer win than that at Chipping
Sodbury. This he duly did !
Ben Linfield and Mike
Timmins opened, not attempting to match Mondays opening partnerships rate but
had put a healthy 70 on the board in 15 overs before Ben was caught for a
determined 29 off 33 balls.
Wickets then fell quickly
and at 98-4 Steve Tabb joined Mike and added 53 before Mike was out for 68. In
stands with Stuart Paul (25) and Patch Seal (39), Steve (66) helped see DCC to
263-9.
After the customary,
sumptuous tour tea, the Marshfield innings was started with “Burger” Hill and
Lodge who was duly c&b Paul 19. Wills soon followed but Watkins &
Burger in a stand of 99 took the score to 140 before Watkins was dismissed for
38. Burger departed for a grand 81 at 185 with 10 overs remaining.
Then a combination of
Williams (54) and Cartwright reached 238-6 with 2 .3 overs remaining, but
Jenkins (15*) & Andy Pierce (8*) were unable to hit 10 of the last over to
win, finishing 2 short.
Rod Hokin claimed 3 for 39
off 8 and other people bowled !
Burger was Marshfield Man of
the Match and James Parks duly nominated DORRIDGE DICKHEAD.
Third day skipper James
Parks had a tough act to follow as he opened with Little and Large (aka Elliot
Seal and Terry Wheddon)
With only 8 men Box were
going to struggle but in true Tour Spirit the skipper offered 3 men to field
for them only to then lose the game !
Elliot Little hit four 4’s
and departed swiftly followed by Terry Large. Rod (34) & John Wright (51
retired) steadied things and with later contributions from Abdul (63) Ben (20)
Parksy (30) and Dutty jnr (26*)
Dorridge closed their 40 overs at 252 for 8.
A century opening stand by
Hayward (67) and Kelly (24) set things up for Box and with Dorridge giving ALL
players a bowl and Trotman, surviving a confident enquiry to the umpire,
completing his ton (106*) Box were home with 2 overs to spare.
Trotman was Box Man of Match
and unsurprisingly Mark Dutton DORRIDGE DICKHEAD.
Dorridge 219-7 beat The Strollers 162-9 by 57 runs.
The game was reduced to 30
overs due to rain and batting first for the forth day running Dorridge had
early reversals as they lost Abdul and Giles with only 19 on the board. However
Sam Reddish held things together as Rod (28) and particularly Greg Pearson (60)
made telling contributions.
Sam was undefeated on 85 as
DCC closed on 219-7. Davie claiming 3 for18 & Nick Warry 3 for 26 .
The Strollers built their
reply around a typical innings from Graham Savin who scored 95, before being
run out, out of their total of 162 for 9.
Matt Blizzard was the pick
of the 10 Dorridge bowlers with 3-13 off 6.
