The Lords dream is over for Marshfield CC as they lost by just 2 runs to Welsh side Carew in front of a large crowd - many making the journey from Marshfield. Electing to bat first Carew made a below par 165 on what was a very good batting track. Tight bowling by all bowlers and keen fielding ensured Marshfield’s batsmen had to chase at just over 4 runs an over. In reply Marshfield started quite well before wickets fell at regular intervals. The run rate rose slightly but whilst Dave Jenkins was at the crease (47) there was always the chance. However, it was left to the final pair of Tom Crockett and Ben White who needed 39 off nine overs to win the match. Some good running and quick singles ensured Marshfield came very close. But when White was caught at mid off with just three runs needed to win, the game was up for Marshfield and the long journey home had to begin.
