TREVOR PENNEY GRANTED BENEFIT YEAR

Trevor Penney, Warwickshire’s Zimbabwean-born batsman, has been awarded a benefit year in 2003 in recognition of 15 years loyal service to the Club.
Trevor, 34, made his first-class debut for Warwickshire County Cricket Club in 1992 against Cambridge University, scoring an unbeaten 102. Since that time he has played in more than 150 first-class matches averaging nearly 40 runs per innings. He was a key member of Warwickshire’s 1994 treble-winning team, and was awarded his county cap that year.

With his speed and deadly accurate throwing, Trevor is still regarded as one of the best and most exciting fielders in the world, earning his place amongst Warwickshire’s “100 Greats”.

He has scored more than 10,000 runs for Warwickshire, and played a significant role in the County’s most recent Championship successes in 1994 and 1995, Sunday League Championships in 1994 and 1997 and one day wins in 1994 and 2002 (Benson & Hedges cup) and 1995 (NatWest Trophy).

Commenting on the announcement, Chief Executive Dennis Amiss said: “We are delighted to award Trevor a benefit year in 2003. He is a valuable member of the squad at Warwickshire and is one of the most popular players in county cricket. We are sure that Trevor will be well supported in his Benefit Year, and wish him every success”.
